AMICUS
Amicus the union is an organisation of approximately of 800,000 members, which is spread across Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. It covers membership in the sciences: chemical, biotech, physics, mechanical, electrical and construction engineering. It also covers a wide spectrum of manufacturing from plastics to automobiles. We also cover a substantial number of members in electronics, information technology and financial services. The membership is inclusive of managers to operatives in all sectors. Amicus is involved at all levels in the Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English trade union structures. It has representatives in ETUC committees. It is involved in the political and economic development in each of the countries mentioned.

It is highly active in the area of health and safety by way of actively participating in the discussion documents on relevant EC directives. Mr. Frank Barry (PC, MIOSH, IEng MIEE) will execute the NanoCap project on behalf of Amicus. He has played an active and professional role in representing AMICUS on expert committees at EU and ETU REHIS levels. For example this includes the current REACH project/SEG committees, the preparation of the explosive atmospheres technical guidance document published by the Commission and the development of safety management standards etc. Frank Barry is active at ICTU, health and safety committees and has played an active role in the European Work Hazards Committee.
